The South Delhi Police have arrested two women for ransacking a head constable’s house three times. The police said the women allegedly took advantage of the constable’s 28-year-old mentally challenged son to steal from the house.

The accused, Anita (43) and Shabana (23), were arrested on Sunday. The police said Shabana knew the head constable Sharda Saini, which is how she got entry into the house. Saini, along with her son, live in Andrews Ganj Police Colony.

According to the police, Saini, a head constable with the licensing department of the Delhi Police, lodged a complaint on May 26, saying her staff quarters were again burgled for the third time in the last six months.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said the police noticed the burglaries occurred on Wednesdays when Saini’s son was home alone. The police were thus able to establish that the burglars might know the family.

Dhaliwal said that Shabana came into contact with Saini when the head constable was looking for a match for her son.

Although things didn’t work out, but Shabana won Saini’s confidence during the meetings and found out that the son would be alone in the house on Wednesdays, he said.

According to the DCP, Shabana, along with Anita, would visit the son when he was alone and gain entry into the house. “Shabana then asked him to hand over the keys to where valuables were kept. After taking the valuables, the accused threatened him not to disclose her name to anyone and escaped,” he said.

The police said they have recovered the stolen items.
